ABOUT SCAJ
SCAJ was founded in the spring of 2019 by a group of students of the Bachelor's program of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Utrecht University.
Students of anthropology write papers, essays, and other assignments for almost every course they take. The majority of these writings will be read only by professors, after which they disappear in a (virtual) drawer - never to be seen again. We think this is a shame. There is so much we can learn from each other’s writings. This is why we have created this platform, to give our fellow students the opportunity to showcase their work and to provide insight into their broad spectrum of interests.
SCAJ is a Utrecht-based journal, made by students for students (and anyone else interested in reading it, of course). We publish work written for anthropology courses offered by Utrecht University and University College Utrecht in our biannual editions. Students are involved in every step of the process, from paper submissions, selection, to publication. SCAJ therefore reflects the efforts of anthropology students in Utrecht through and through.
Besides our journal, we also have a blog on our website, which houses short, non-university graded articles from anthropology students and alumni.
SCAJ appears biannually, publishing works that were written during the previous semester. Each publication thus provides an overview of topics and texts that interest students of anthropology, keeping the reader up to date on the newest discussions, styles, and literature.
